The Town of Petawawa is currently seeking an experienced professional to fulfill the full-time position of Deputy Clerk. Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer/Clerk the Deputy Clerk will provide administrative support to the CAO/Clerk in the management of the Town. The Deputy Clerk performs statutory duties under the Municipal Act and any other Acts or Regulations pertaining to municipalities. The Deputy Clerk is responsible for the provision of Council and Committee secretariat services by attending all Council meetings and accurately recording the minutes of procedures and resulting decisions; preparing and distributing agendas, minutes of meetings and general correspondence arising from these minutes. The Deputy Clerk oversees the By-law Enforcement and Animal Control functions of the municipality. The Deputy Clerk acts as Secretary for the Petawawa Police Services Board; Lottery Licencing Officer; alternate Community Emergency Management Coordinator; Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act Coordinator; and Deputy Registrar under the Vital Statistics Act and Marriage Act. The Deputy Clerk fulfills the duties of the Returning Officer for municipal elections, and is responsible for all aspects of conducting the municipal election and any by-elections. Applicants will possess a degree or diploma in Public Administration, Political Science or related discipline; a related mix of education and experience may be considered. A minimum of three years of municipal experience at a senior level, including thorough knowledge of provincial legislation as it pertains to municipal government; a professional designation of AMCT or CMO; and a Diploma in Municipal Administration or Management are preferred. Completion of the Basic Emergency Management Course and the Community Emergency Management Coordinator Course are assets.
