The Family Support Worker will, under the general direction of the Clinical Manager, drawing on their own skills and experience, provide advocacy and support services to family members and loved ones of a person living with mental health problems and will participate in the development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of programs and services for individuals, families and the community.


  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma
  • College diploma in a related social sciences field would be an asset
  • Lived-Experience as a family member supporting a loved-one with mental health concerns
  • Previous experience in a team oriented environment
  • Experience in planning and facilitating groups
  • Experience working in a counseling capacity or in a community mental health program setting or related field(s) would be considered an asset
  • Ability to function with groups of clients as well as individuals
  • Knowledge of local community resources in order to facilitate access to social, recreational, clinical and transportation services
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated computer software application skills
  • Valid Class G Driver’s License
  • Access to a reliable vehicle with minimum $2,000,000.00 liability insurance to transport self and clients throughout Renfrew County
  • Good knowledge of psychosocial rehabilitation and relevant sections of legislations (i.e. Mental Health Act, Human Rights Code, Landlord and Tenant Act, etc.)
  • Ability to communicate in both official languages preferred
  • WRAP (Wellness Recovery Action Plan), ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills), NVCI (Non-Violent Crisis Intervention) training would be an asset
