Through the 1900’s, Renfrew County developed a strong history in manufacturing. Historically the leading manufacturing industries were in forestry products, textiles, industrial products, aerospace, pharmaceuticals and consumer goods. With the decline in pulp and paper product manufacturing in the forestry sector as well as textiles and consumer goods, in recent years, a small cluster of aerospace and defence manufactures has been thriving in the region.

As the host community to Garrison Petawawa, Canada’s largest army base, and Canadian Nuclear Laboratories, a leading Canadian research centre, Renfrew County has benefited from the billions of dollars being invested to refurbish and rejuvenate both of these sites. Combined with the resources, access to skilled labour and proximity to the nation’s capital, Renfrew County is well positioned to attract business looking to invest and grow in the military, defence, aerospace, nuclear and science and technology sectors.
