Forestry has historic significance and importance within Renfrew County, being the key sector to follow the fur trade, clearing land for agriculture and giving rise to the communities that exist today in the region. The sector is still a significant contributor to the economic and social fabric of Renfrew County, providing development and growth through sustainable practices and consideration for the natural environment. Of particular interest in this sector is the potential for additional value-added processing, bio-energy generation and further market development to increase exports.

Renfrew County hosts many good sized saw mills which are integrated into the Canadian and international supply chain. Renfrew County is also host to many small and larger value added wood product manufactures, as well as Roseburg Pembroke MDF, a large medium density fibre board manufacturer, suppling the North American market.
